Like the hum of the engines on a cruise liner, the modern day receiver is the heart and soul of your home's music system.

Speakers that give us the fragile editing of a movie score or the blare of hard rock are controlled by the receiver; from listening to Talk Radio in the morning to smooth jazz in the evening, we rely on the receiver; in subtle, magical ways, it moves between the video and audio cards, and finally, can give us the lush surrounding of music in our home with surround sound. This isn't buyer beware....this is buyer BE AWARE. Your entire musical system is going to rely on this investment. The two most important choices are Home Stereo Surround Sound and the stereo receiver.

One might imagine, the difference as having an orchestra or a romantic three piece band, both entail enormous differences with great benefits with each. First, Home Surround Sound requires size for the speakers, and possible growth in the system. For the three piece band, better known as the stereo receiver, it should be recognized that it only has two channels of amplification compared to the 5 or 7 of the Home Theater Surround Sound. So, when you think of Home Surround sound, think of the size of your home and how often the family watches a movie, or whether that will be expanding in the future (little ones do grow up! Promise!)

Once you have made that initial choice, then the fine tuning begins....as we say in the Orchestra. The receiver must have enough power to adequately service all the speakers and the size of the rooms. Your beautiful speakers can be like a woman...sensitive. If they are, they require more power.
