Onkyo TX-NR906 Receivers

We got to try-out the TX-NR906 system and well, there was no disappointment. Before we start listing features and what-not, we feel compelled to tell you that this is the replacement for one of the industries most respected and trusted audio receiving systems, the TX-NR905.

With such a high standard to replace, and being in excess of a thousand dollars, it's specs and characteristics are superb! This receiver demonstrates that this are no longer "units" but entire audio systems packaged in a single, very heavy, piece of equipment. The features on this product go well beyond simply amplifying audio and dwell in the realm of video upscaling and even wireless audio receiving.

Which is one of the most interesting of its features, this unit is network capable and it allows you to send any audio file extension you can think of. It will decipher anything from MP3 to Ogg Vorbis sent to it from any PC on the network and play it in its clearest form, as loud as you want it, did I mention you can also listen to radio stations online? No? Well, you can!

And, as far as video upscaling is concerned, this puppy uses the HQV Reon-VX chipset from Silicon Optix, recognized as one of the world's most advanced video processors. Oh, but that's not all, the TX-NR906 also allows you to tweak the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and gamma levels on each video input. But that is video and, honestly, audio is the TX-NR906's reason of existence, and it proves it by having not 1 or 6 but 7 x 230W out puts.

It is capable of decoding any audio format you can think of, Dolby True HD? Yep. DTS HD Master Audio? Of course. Dolby Digital Plus and DTS HD? You bet! And, how cool is this?! It gets the THX Ultra2 Plus certification, meaning you can make your audio sound loud while keeping your neighbors from calling the cops on you.

You can also calibrate your speakers to the exact size of your room, distance from speaker to speaker, how big your speakers are, and other fun stuff thanks to Audyssey. The unit is offered in two colors, back or silver, and, as mentioned before, this beast is pretty heavy.

So get a buddy when you’re ready to get one. The TX-NR906 has a large display and an even larger volume knob, covered control panels and a row of buttons on top to help you select what you want to hear. The display panel actually displays names, audio formats, and other info about the songs being streamed to it through the networked PC.
