Yamaha RX-V863 Receivers
The Yamaha RX-V863 is an exceptionally good value for your entertainment dollar. It features all of the dominant audio processing encoding, except THX.
The benefit of this particular receiver is that it features legacy analog audio, video and game inputs. Composite analog video and S-Video is fully supported for DCD, DTV/CBL, DVR, VCR, and monitor video. There is also component video for DVD, DTV/CBL, DVR, and monitor. Additionally, there are in/out audio for CD and phonograph players.
Nice to have features include PRE IN/OUT to accommodate an outboard graphic equalizer or using an external amplifier. The speaker connectors are robust, nicely spaced and spread out; easily turned by large fingers with ease. In addition to the main connections for the primary listening environment, there are a pair of connectors for a second zone.
There are three TOSLINK (fiber optic audio) inputs and one output. With three HDMI 1.3 inputs and one HMDI output, there is sufficient digital capability for most applications. The HDMI 1.3 standards support digital audio and Deep Color (32-bit) for breath-taking clarity of audio and video. If the number of HDMI connectors becomes problematic, the same level and quality of digital audio is available using the fiber optic connectors, especially for components in close proximity to the receiver.
The usual 75-ohm coaxial FM cable and AM antenna connections are present.
A number of external options are provided for with discrete jacks. These include Sirius and XM satellite radio; and, iPod and Bluetooth wireless via a separately available docking station, also made by Yamaha, to match the receiver. Remote IN/OUT and trigger out jacks are on the back panel, as well as two switched AC outlets.
With 105 Watts RMS per channel (7/2), this is plenty loud. An integrated AM/FM tuner with 40 presets and 720p/1080i/1080p video conversion, it will take a while to outgrow this receiver.
